National Selection for University players

Six of the seven selected players that will represent South Africa at the 6^th FASU games in Senegal

Seven Tshwane University of Technology female soccer players have been selected to represent South African at the 6^th Federation Association of African University Sport Games in Dakar Senegal.

Players from South African Universities participating in the University Sports of South Africa league were sent to a National Camp for trials, which took place during the long weekend from 27 April to 1 may at WITS University. TUT Women's team sent Twelve players and Seven of them were selected.

From a total of twenty seven selected players TUT managed to have the most number of players in the squad, "it came as shock to me that so many players are selected from my team, TUT has never had more than one player selected for the national team. That is why I was shocked to see seven of my players on the list, which is more than any other institution in the country" said TUT Coach Tebogo Mokae. The University of Pretoria follows TUT with a total of six players.

TUT players Mahlatsi Mogola, Thwana Shange, Koketso Tlailane, Tshepiso Tsagane, Letago Madiba, Bontle Chabaesele and Banyana Banyana player Mary Ntsweng who was the only player to make it last year are amongst the selected players. Playing in the tournament will bring exposure for the players, "it is a start for all the players that were selected to get recognised. It is a great opportunity especially for TUT players we should get support from everyone I would also like to see two three players making it for Banyana Banyana Trials", said Thwana Shange

Bontle Chabaesele hopes that more opportunities will arise from the tournament," This is the beginning from here I would like to take it to the top maybe playing for Banyana Banyana or even playing overseas". She is also pleased with the work that is done by her coach," I am so proud of our coach because seven players have been selected to represent our country in Senegal"

According to Mokae this shows that their standard of soccer is improving, "I am very happy and proud of the girls and I have no doubt they will represent us with pride, this goes to show that there is a lot of improvement from our ladies, said Mokae.

The tournament will take place from the 12 to 20^th of September, the team will play against some of the best National players from African Universities.

TUT claims victory

TUT Pretoria women’s team defeated CIDA College 16-0 in their USSA league fixture at the Tshwane University of Technology’s FNB Stadium on Tuesday 24 April.

TUT showed their determination in the opening minute by testing CIDA goalkeeper Palesa Mokhena, who made a crucial save to deny TUT their opening goal. The score sheet opened in the 12^th minute when Letang “Lee” Madiba netted a corner kick that was delivered by Banyana Banyana player Marry Ntsweng. CIDA`s defence was caught off guard by an early shot which met Lebo “Shuffle” Rakhuduwe who capitalized and scored the third goal in the 15^th minuet three minutes after the second goal. By the time the whistle was blown for half-time, CIDA had very little opportunities to score. TUT had already found the back of the net 9 times. In the second half, the pace of the first half and continued to score more goals. TUT added 7 rounding up their total goals to 16.

TUT are now at the top of the log and they will take on VUT Vanderbjilpark in an away fixture next week Tuesday

Leopards gets a Brazilian manicure

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Black leopards 5-1 in an ABSA Premier League fixture at the Loftus Versveld stadium on Sunday, 30 October.

Leopards failed to sink in their claws to an already injured Sundowns team which suffered an attack from swallows in their previous match. The first goal of the six goal thriller came in the first half after Mamelodi Sundowns striker Nyasha Mushekwi netted in the opening goal which left leopard’s keeper Posnet Omony pouncing on air, Mushekwi went on to score a second goal in the 63^rd minuet making most deserving of the man of the match prize.

Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela scored two goals making him the top goal scorer of the ABSA Premiership league, with a total of seven goals to his name. Richard Henikani scored his first long awaited goal in two years which came in the 87^th minuet, shortly after leopards scored their consolation goal from a brilliant direct free kick taken by Khethokwekhe Masuku and further denied downs keeper Calvin Marlin a clean sheet in the 85^th minute. After scoring all their goals downs still aspired to score more until the final whistle which ended leopards’ spa treatment that left the team with blunt claws

Downs moves to 3^rd place on the log with 19 goals to date, as part of cancer awareness month the Brazilians contributed R50 000 towards breast cancer research, the amount was calculated according to the amount of goals scored by the team.

TUT bowled out by TUKS

TUT lost their eighth cricket match against the University of Pretoria at the Pretoria campus on Saturday, October 22.

TUKS won by 145 runs leaving their total score at 322/7, while TUT only managed to score 177 all out with 3 wickets for 45 runs in 15 overs taken by TUKS bowler Ekemm. In the first innings, an impressive partnership of 212 runs between TUKS batsmen C. Letcher and J. Richard set the pace of the match and contributed to TUKS victory.

Letcher contributed almost half of TUKS` total runs with 155 runs, followed by Richard’s 82 runs. TUT followed behind with batsman Michael Voysey scoring 55 runs making him the only player to hit home half a century. Northern Gauteng player Tom Khoza put up a brilliant performance scoring the second highest runs with a total of 34 runs to his name. Tom also took the most wickets with 3 wickets with 78 runs and 15 overs.

TUT has managed to secure 6 victories out of the eight games they played to date this year.

TUT hosts DENOSA Gauteng PLM Sports Tournament 2011

Nursing Universities and Collages from all over Gauteng participated in the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) Gauteng Provincial Leadership Movement Sports Tournament 2011 which took place on Saturday 17 September at TUT Pretoria West campus.

The fixture began at 12:00, in the opening match TUT`s Adelaide Tambo School of Nursing Science lost to Ann Latsky Nursing Collage, TUT played well in their following match fixtures which helped them in advancing to the semi-finals. The first semi-final fixture was a clash between SG Lourens and Ann Latsky who defeated SG Lourens 3-1.The second semi-final saw TUT take on Fundzho Denzhe Nursing School, TUT only managed to score a lucky goal from a free kick by Zachariea “Majoro” Manganyi which slipped through Fundzho goalkeepers hands.

Fundzho replied almost two minuets after “Majoro`s” goal ending the match in a 2-1 victory which ment TUT finished third. When it was time for the final match to begin Fundzho Denzhe only had five minuets to rest however their performance told a different story. By half time Fundzho were leading 2-0 with both goals originating from a free kick, in the first goal defender Monduleli “rasta” Maphinda took a brilliant free kick from their defending half which connected with Midfielder Litha “Gattuso” Vumisa who made no mistake in finding the back of the net, the second free kick goal was similar to the first this time scored by Siya Maziphelele beating Ann Latsky goalkeeper Thabiso “jawz” Matlala. Three more goals were added to the score sheet in the second half when Ann Latsky finaly found the back of the net and Fundzho adding two more goals winning the title 4-1.

Funzho Denzhe coach Sibusiso Mase`s statement “feel it , it is here” after winning the semi-finals was true when his team lifted the trophy at the prize giving ceremony which happened later that evening behind the pool area.

NWU gets a friendly Beat Down

The North West University lost to The Tshwane University of Technology in a friendly game at the TUT Pretoria West campus outdoor basketball court on Saturday 17 September late afternoon.

TUT won the game with a 20 point difference ending the friendly 34-14. Point guard Katlego Moroena and shooting guard Thato Miya played well, they are players under development scouted from Rosina Sedibane Sports School, Katlego and Thato will officially join the TUT team next year when they enrole with the University as currently they are learners at the Rosina Sedibane Sports School based in Laudium Pretoria West.

TUT qualifies for League semi-finals despite Losing against UJ

Tshwane University of Technology senior women’s team lost to The University of Johannesburg during a USSA league match played at the TUT Pretoria campus main stadium on the 4^th of September. Match official referee Stevens Khumalo had a quick word with both teams during their lineup regarding teams not respecting the kick off time as the game didn`t start as scheduled, shortly after that the match kicked off. A serious collusion between UJ goalkeeper Lerato Mamabolo and TUT player Gugulethu Kotope seemed to have injured the keeper who stood up and resumed play after taking about three minutes to recover. Both teams put up a solid performance in the first half which left the score at 0-0 going into half time.

The only goal in the match was scored in the second half when UJ captain Siduduze Mthetwa played a free kick that connected with Angelique Ferreira who delivered a cross into the box finding Shadi “Shadey” Matenche who found the back of the .TUT almost scored when Bontle Chabaesele delivered a powerful shot which forced UJ goal keeper to make an essential save, Koketso Mahlangu was substituted after a dangerous tackle from UJ player Basra Machales who was the only player to be booked after receiving a red card. TUT will take on UJ again this time in the semi-finals.
